The MEERAPFEL Cigar vision traces back to 2003. A coup d’État in the Central African Republic abruptly ended decades of passionate work and the life’s quest of Richard Meerapfel. He passed away tragically young, days after the family’s expropriation due to a military dictator usurping power. This tragic loss marked yet another turning point in the history of the Meerapfel family. Following his father’s passing, Jeremiah Meerapfel set out to honour four centuries of family heritage, by contributing meaningful, lasting value to the cigar industry. His vision was to create something that had never existed in the cigar world — a new segment inspired by the principles of Old-European luxury.

Having grown up in Europe and being inspired by the legacy houses in haute horologerie, haute couture, and high-precision engineering, Jeremiah identified the structural pillars of true luxury: a strong historical foundation, continuous innovation, and a relentless, obsessive pursuit of excellence.

Applying these principles to the world of tobacco and cigars required a complete rethinking of how to redefine limits. Through a deliberate process of deconstruction, innovation and engineering, MEERAPFEL pushed craftsmanship and technicity to unprecedented levels. The focus remained constant: elevate every detail — raw materials, processes, design and assembly — to elevate the quality of the experience.

Everything starts with the tobacco.

The precious Cameroon wrapper leaves used for MEERAPFEL Cigar are aged in the heart of Europe under natural conditions. While tobacco aging in the Caribbean relies on temperature-controlled cooling rooms, which essentially freeze a tobacco’s evolution, the Meerapfel family allows their bales to mature organically over decades — sometimes 50 years or more — in the natural climates of Old Europe.

Like a great wine resting in historic cellars in Burgundy or Bordeaux, the tobacco continues to work, breathe and evolve. This slow, uninterrupted maturation removes impurities and toxins — particularly ammoniac, responsible for mouth irritation, palate fatigue and poor combustion.

What remains is the purest expression of the raw material: pure essential oils, aromatic nuance, resulting in utmost balance, complexity and elegance - especially on the retrohale.
